Making ThereBucks
[Home] [Vehicles] [mini-FAQ] [Shopping] [Skills] [Emotes] [Making T$]

o be perfectly honest, the only real way to make money in There is to first spend real money, and become a member.  As a visitor you only have 14 days until your account expires, and there's no real point of accumulating items and money if you don't intend to keep using your account.  Furthermore, non-members are unable to give any of their items or money to any another avatar.  You can't move your stuff from one free trial avatar to the next.

Besides, as newbie you really should not burden your self with trying acquire items and money.  As a trial member you should spend your time having fun, and see if you will enjoy your time here. This world encourages sharing, in fact there is a skill called "newbie helper" and this encourages everyone to help newbies.  So don't hesitate to ask anyone, especially your MENTOR, to loan you a vehicle like a buggy, hoverpack, hoverboard, hoverbike. Lots of people are more than willing to lend or give you things you might need since we already know you don't have enough money to get your own vehicles. Besides when you sign up for membership, you will get Therebucks to spend. And you'll be able to buy things in auctions.

If you want to sign up, but need to know the pros and cons about it, please read this.

Quick T$ Making Tips for Newbies

  • Just make new friends. There are a lot of generous people in There, so you'll find people who are willing to give you some clothing, or maybe even some money, loan vehicles, etc.  Just ask politely.

  • If you have membership, try selling your old stuff in auctions, or any clothing or items you have you don't want anymore.

  • Check the Wholesale List to compare auction prices with wholesale prices, and see if you can find a good deal.  Or conversely look for items that you might consider way over priced.

Buying ThereBucks
You can buy therebucks directly from There using ThereBanker for US $1 for 1787t, with a minimum of a US$5 purchase  (T$8935).  Use your credit card, or PayPal account, and you'll see your therebucks with in 30 minutes after you make your purchase.  This is the quickest way to get more ThereBucks.

However there are better deals out there from avatars that can buy Therebucks from, usually about 2000t for one (US) Dollar.  Or you can SELL your extra T$ for real money. All transactions are done with PayPal.  Here is a list of organizations that buy and sell your Therebucks.  Please be sure to contact these people for more information.

Jobs!
Most of the jobs available are created by other avatars who have established some sort of business.  Most of these employers are developers who create clothing, vehicles and other objects in world to be sold.  Often these employers need other avatars to help promote and advertise their products, as well as model clothing for fashion shows.

There are a few places you can look for jobs:

Auctions
Note: Newbies aren't able to use auctions.  You can still browse through it, and use the "try-on" feature, but you will not be able to purchase anything, nor can you place things in auction.   You will have to sign up for membership.

Look for cheap deals that you can easily turn around and sell for a profit in a new action.  But don't mark the price up higher than the normal price that you'll find in Shop Central, or developer items found in auction. Often you'll see some jerk selling a Bumble Bee Hoverpack for like T$10,000 when you can buy them at shop central for only T$6599.  Don't fall for this scam.

Also check out the Happening Now section of the activities page, and find swap meets, garage sales, pawn shops, or other selling/buying events you can check out and find good deals. Or start your own event like this and get some deals!  These often work a LOT better than waiting for your items to sell in auctions

ThereDocs
ThereDocs refers to books, scrolls, raffle tickers, reward trophies, and the like.  You can make money from these in a couple of ways.

You can place a price for people to read your book.  This means people will pay whatever price you set to read your document.  The only problem is that the reader has no idea what he's about to pay for, other than what you place in the title of the document.  Most people don't pay for these unless they have a good idea on what it is.

Event Hosting
You can charge an entrance fee to attend your events.  If they don't pay they don't get to come in and participate.

Keep in mind most people do NOT like to attend pay events.  The reason is most events are already free, so no one wants to pay to enter a buggy race or some party, when there's dozens of other events where they can do the same thing for free.  So you will have to be creative with your ideas for events for people to pay for it.  Also if the entrance fee went towards some sort of charity, people are usually more acceptable to that.  Otherwise it's not a good idea to have a cover charge to enter an event.  Also you can only set up these events at homes, and funzones.  Activity flags don't support this.

Developer Program
This is THE way to earn millions of Therebucks! (Perhaps)

If you know how to use paint software like Photoshop, then you might be interested in the Developer Program. This is where you can create your own clothes and sell them for profit in game!  If you're also well versed in 3D modeling you would be also interested in this program and create vehicles, objects, and other cool stuff that you can also sell for profit in world!

But PLEASE  be warned that you must SPEND money to earn money.

Signing up for the developer program is FREE, but once you're ready to submit an item to There, you will have to pay a good amount of Therebucks to do so.  Then you'll have to wait for There to review your submission to make sure there are no bugs, and it's passes their polices (i.e. not obscene, Copyrighted material,  or other objectionable material).

The reason why they make us pay to do this is:

  • The process is not automatic, real people who work at There, are sitting in front of a computer in cubicles reviewing all submissions. So the therebucks you pay to submit, and wholesale costs, help pay their salaries.

  • If submission costs were too cheap then all kinds of crap would be in world, flooding the market. This helps keep the crappy items being submitted down... somewhat.

After your item has been approved you will have to pay a wholesale charge to bring a new item into world, but you can sell your items in auction for over that price and the difference will be your profit.

Here's an example how the developer program works:

  1. You design a new t-shirt, which costs around 8000t to submit to There.

  2. After it's approved, you can then set up an action where you can sell several dozens of your shirts, in a buy-now auction.

  3. T-shirts cost 800t wholesale, so if you set the price at 1000t, you'll earn profit 200t for every sale.  Set the price to 4000t, and you'll earn 3200t profit.  Set whatever price you might think it's worth. Lets say you place 10 in auction.  A basic auction cost $30 to post, and can last up too two months.

  4. You don't pay the total wholesale cost of the shirts up front for the 10 shirts you placed in auction. The shirts don't even exist until someone buys one. So even if you don't sell all 10 of your shirts at the end of your auction you don't lose any extra money.

  5. When someone buys your shirt, the wholesale price is automatically deducted from the sale price, and you get the difference as profit that instantly appears in your therebucks balance.

Starting fees for auction is 30t, but it can last for two months.  If you want to publicize your item better you can pay 1400t extra (per day) so it appears as a "Featured Item" on the main Auction page, but those can only last two weeks. The main auction page only shows so many "Featured Auctions" at one time, so it cycles though hundreds of them every  time someone views that page.

Most people find other methods of advertising their stuff, rather than depending on featured auctions.  Usually dropping signs, books, brochures in areas that advertise their wares works well. Often these will link to a website they can buy from, or they link directly to an auction page.  Others like to hire other avatars to be sales people.  Holding events to show off your new stuff (fashion shows) works well.  Others have had radio advertisements on shout cast servers from DJs who are members of There.

Also every time your submission gets approved you get a "free" copy of it in your inventory for you to show off to others to help advertise your product.  You can also sell it directly.  This is also good if you simply wanted to make a SINGLE item just for your self; you won't have to pay extra wholesale costs just to get one copy of it.
